Services
As a Consultant in Haematology, Dr Rahemtulla provides the following services and procedures
Blood Tests:
Haematology is the study of blood and its disorders. These include various forms of anaemia, clotting disorders and malignant diseases of the blood and bone marrow. Blood tests can be used to diagnose various disorders resulting in a high or low number of red blood cells, a high or low number of white blood cells and a low or high number of platelets. Blood tests can also be used to diagnose bleeding or clotting disorders.
Bone marrow test:
Blood is formed in the bone marrow and often the clues to any disease lie in the bone marrow. It is therefore essential to examine the bone marrow in order to diagnose certain diseases.
Blood transfusion:
In case of anaemia, it may sometimes be necessary to receive a transfusion of blood
Chemotherapy:
Chemotherapy is the treatment of malignant disorders such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma with either oral or intravenous cytotoxic drugs
Lumbar puncture:
In certain conditions such as leukaemia and lymphoma, it may be necessary to diagnose and treat the disease in the nervous system. This is carried out by performing a lumbar puncture to examine the spinal fluid and inject drugs into the space surrounding the spinal cord.
Stem cell transplantation:
Some diseases are treated with chemotherapy and sometimes radiotherapy together with transplantation of stem cells from the patient or a matched donor.
